Staff step out to raise cancer cash

Around 60 employees walked 26 miles from Weston-super-Mare to Bristol to show their support for a former colleague diagnosed with cancer.

More than £8,000 was raised for Cancer Research UK and Macmillan Cancer Support by colleagues and friends of retired linesman Ian Woods.

Ian, who worked with us for 40 years before retiring last December following a terminal diagnosis, said: “I feel humbled and blown away by the support shown by all those who walked so many miles in one day to raise money for two charities that are doing such great work to combat and cure cancer.”

It took just over six hours for some of the fastest walkers to complete the journey from the Weston depot in Warne Road to our HQ in Bristol’s Feeder Road.

Cheered on by Ian along the way, the walkers from our Weston, Mendip and Bristol depots raised £8,802, surpassing a target of £5,000. You can support the National Grid Walk for Woodsy, here
