£1 million Electricity Upgrade for Boston Hospital
Work to install a power supply for the new A& E department at Boston’s Pilgrim Hospital will begin in the New Year.
The £1 million project to expand the electricity network, which includes laying six kilometres of new underground cable, will be carried out by National Grid Electricity Distribution.
The work, which is expected to last for up to six months, will create two new dedicated electrical circuits supplying power to the hospital. National Grid will also build two new substations on the hospital site and extend the primary substation at Mount Bridge, Alfred Street, which serves the hospital, to provide the additional capacity needed.
The route of this essential work will unfortunately mean some disruption for local road users, including some temporary road closures and traffic management.
National Grid Technician Barry Collingwood said: “We’ve been working closely with other agencies, including the highways authority, to keep disruption to a minimum during this essential network upgrade to power future patient care in Boston.
“However, some road closures and temporary traffic management will be necessary to ensure the safety of local people and the engineers on site. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause as we work to future proof the electricity network for the people of Boston.”
The first road closure will begin on Monday 15 January on Freiston Road, with a diversion via John Adams Way and Main Ridge. There will be no disruption for pedestrians or cyclists but some bus routes may be affected.
