‘Green Recovery’ Investment Powers Nottingham
A £560,000 green recovery scheme for Nottingham will provide extra electrical capacity for homes and businesses, as well as future proofing the electricity network for the expected surge in low carbon technologies, like electric vehicle (EV) chargers.
The scheme has extended a high voltage cable circuit from Watnall into the Awsworth Area of Nottingham.
The new circuit will create capacity for 250 new homes and a water treatment site and provide improved network security for the wider area, reducing the risk of power cuts and future proofing the network to meet demand.
The scheme has been delivered with no disruption to customer supplies.
Nottingham Distribution Manager for National Grid, Dave Hewitt said: “There has been no disruption to power supplies for customers because we transferred electricity supplies to other parts of the network while the work was taking place.
“This project will bolster network capacity for local developments and for customers looking to connect low carbon technologies like EV chargers, heat pumps and renewable generation, such as solar panels.”
National Grid has delivered the scheme as part of the green recovery initiative to speed up the UK’s journey to net zero.
