60 Second Interview
As part of our regular series of interviewing Western Power Distribution staff, we caught up with Cwmbran based Technician Paul Keenan.
What’s your career background?
I began my career working as a labourer in 1978. I then trained as a tree cutter and in 1981 trained as a linesman, and then later took on the role of technician. I have always worked in the East Wales area, and I am currently based at our Ty Coch depot.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
The variation; no two days are ever the same. I also get a sense of satisfaction when a job is completed on time and on target. I like to think I have achieved a good end result. It’s also good to be working with a great team of colleagues.
What’s the biggest challenge you face?
Meeting tight deadlines and targets can be a challenge, as is liaising with the various highways departments.
What does your role entail?
My role is quite varied. I mostly deal with high voltage faults, the installation of new plant and equipment and new business.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I love to go sea fishing and spending time relaxing in my caravan with my family. I have a fast fisher boat moored outside Exeter which is really relaxing.
