A boost for West Bridgford

Work is due to take place to further upgrade the electricity network in West Bridgford.

The seven-week initiative begins on May 14 with excavations along Rectory Road (between the former ambulance station and Tudor Square) so that electricity cables can be installed.



This will enable new properties on the road to be connected to the electricity network. A substation, fitted with the latest automated equipment, is also being built to cater for the new properties as well as load from adjacent substations that will be transferred onto it.

In the event of future power cuts in the area, the automated equipment will enable supplies to be re-routed quickly, benefiting around 5,000 local homes and businesses.
Steve Hayward, WPD Team Manager said: “We’ve been working closely with Nottinghamshire County Council to help minimise disruption to residents and traffic in the area. We’ve also sent letters to homes and businesses about the work with a contact number of who to contact if there are any issues.”

To enable WPD’s engineers to work safely, the following traffic management will be in place:

• Multi way traffic lights on Rectory Road during the work;
• A road closure for nine days from May 29 on the westbound lane of Rectory Road between its junction with Tudor Square to the junction of Bridgford Road. This will also include the closure of Exchange Road at its Rectory Road junction.
