Boost to Power Network in Shrewsbury

A £230,000 scheme to support Shrewsbury’s net zero goals and accommodate increased demand on the west side of the town is due to begin on Monday 4 September.

The project will see us upgrade 1.75km of high voltage cable, meaning that customers who want to install low carbon technologies such as heat pumps, solar panels and electric vehicle chargers can be sure the electricity network will be able to meet their needs.

Work will be conducted in phases between 4 September and 12 December and for some of that time traffic management will be in place for the safety of workers. Affected residents and businesses will be notified by letter.

The first phase involves excavations in the footpath on Mytton Oak Road from Montague Walk to the junction with Swiss Farm Road. Temporary traffic lights will be in place in the areas we’re working and these will be manually operated between 7.30am and 6.30pm so the timings on the signals can be adjusted if needed.

When possible, the temporary traffic lights will be removed outside working hours and over weekends to help minimise disruption. During the week beginning 18 September there will be three-way lights at the junction of Mytton Oak Road and Swiss Farm Road.

From 25 September, work starts on Shelton Road where we will also be using temporary traffic lights for the safety of our workers.

National Grid Technician Tim Grove, who is in charge of the project, said: “We are aware these essential works will cause some disruption to customers and road users in Shrewsbury. We’d like to apologise for the inconvenience and assure everyone that we’ll be working as quickly as we safely can and doing our best to minimise disruption.”
