Boxing clever in Bristol

A £2m, six-month project to replace 141 link boxes is underway in Bristol.

Jointing teams are working on the scheme that runs until July and follows initial inspections that revealed 20% of link boxes needed replacing to comply with a new policy released in September last year.

Avonbank Team Manager Andy Lingard, who is overseeing the project, explained: “Along with the new policy, we are now working with a new Inspection App that enables staff to inspect and photograph link boxes in more detail.

“We have worked closely with Bristol City Council and our contractors Kier on this particular work that’s taking place in the Highridge area of Bristol. In this instance, providing vehicle and pedestrian access to properties has been essential along with organising required shutdowns where a back-fed supply isn’t available.

“Once the link boxes are replaced, it will not only benefit network reliability but further reduce risks to staff when working on the link boxes and aid fault restoration on HV faults.”
