Electrical work finishes ahead of schedule in Melton
Western Power Distribution (WPD), the electricity distributor responsible for the Midlands area, has carried out a major £700,000project to further safeguard its electricity network in North East Leicestershire, and it has finished two weeks ahead of schedule.
The project, which started in April, involved relaying 2km of cable along Asfordby Road in Melton to connect up to a new substation. Another 4.5km of cable has been laid along Leicester Road to the industrial estate and new 33,000 volt cables have been laid along Saxby Road and Norman Way.
To minimise disruption, cables were thrust bored under the Thorpe End Road junction and much of WPD’s work was completed outside of peak times.
The work, which has taken six months to complete, will help to reinforce the network to around 14,000 customers in Melton and the surrounding areas.
Simon Deacon, WPD’s Distribution Manager for the area said; “Our aim is to invest to maintain the reliability of electricity supplies for years to come.”
