Engineers help storm-hit Ireland
Our engineers have won praise for helping get the lights back on for thousands of people in Ireland who were affected by Storms Isha and Jocelyn.
A team of 25 from Cardiff, Swansea, East and West Wales spent four days repairing damage caused by the storms in County Cavan.
After successfully restoring power to customers affected by Storm Isha in South Wales, overhead line specialists travelled by ferry from Pembroke to Rosslare to work alongside counterparts from ESB Networks.
The Irish distribution network operator had more than 235,000 customers without electricity at the height of the storm disruption, which closed schools and businesses.
The NGED engineers restored power in isolated rural areas where high winds had brought down trees onto overhead lines and damaged poles.
Sean Sullivan, NGED Operations Director for South Wales, said: “The team had a great reception from the ESB customers who were pleased to see them get the lights back on.
“I’m extremely proud of the way the Welsh team responded to the request for help, delivering a great customer service in a professional and safe way.”
