Fruit boost for school orchard
Children from Mount Street Primary School in Plymouth took some time out from the classroom to plant up some new trees in their outdoor space.
Five cooking apple trees and 1 silver birch were donated by Western Power Distribution. The trees were sourced via Plymouth Tree Partnership who gave advice and support about what to plant as well as help the children plant the trees too.
Gloria Dixon a volunteer from Plymouth Tree Partnership explains: “These trees will complement the outdoor space and help the children understand the food chain. Hopefully in a year or two the trees will provide an abundance of fruit the children can pick and cook.
We had a lovely session planting the trees and the children understand how they have to care for the trees to see them reach their full potential.
If your school would like to be considered for some free trees please contacttcarr@westernpower.co.uk
