Fruit boost to school grounds
Youngsters at Stafford Leys Primary School in Leicester took some lessons in the outdoors recently; learning all about planting fruit trees and gaining some hands-on experience too.
Thanks to a donation of trees from local electricity company Western Power Distribution (WPD), children were shown how to prepare the hole, plant and stake each tree to give it the best start by local volunteers from The Conservation Volunteers.
Andy Yates from WPD said: “It was a cold day but the children were keen to learn and showed a lot of spirit digging the ground. The trees will have quite an impact when fully grown in a couple of years’ time.”
