Fun with Santa

We are helping to put the spark into Christmas by supporting the Acorns Children’s Hospice charity fun-run with a difference.

Members of the Birmingham South East team get into the Christmas spirit at Acorns Children’s Hospice in Selly Oak ahead of this weekend’s Santa Run.

Staff pulled on their Santa costumes and visited the charity’s hospice in Selly Oak, ahead of their sponsorship of the Acorns Santa Run on Saturday 5 December.

The event, which starts and finishes at the Barclaycard Arena, will see hundreds of fundraisers dressed as Santa, get sponsored to run around Birmingham, supporting the charity and its work providing care for local life-threatened and life-limited children, young people and their families.

Carl Ketley-Lowe, Birmingham South East Team Manager for the company, said: “We are thrilled to be supporting Acorns by sponsoring the Santa Run once again and this maintains our longstanding relationship with the charity. The event really is a fun, festive occasion and we’re looking forward to getting into character as Father Christmas on the day!

“During our visit to the hospice in Selly Oak we saw first-hand the important work the charity does with children, young people and their families so it’s a pleasure for us to be able to play a role in supporting that.”

Acorns offers a network of care for children and support to their families across the West Midlands. In the last year, Acorns has supported over 760 children and more than 980 families, including those who are bereaved.

Shujea Khatun, Major Events Officer at Acorns, said: “It was a pleasure to welcome Carl and his team from Western Power Distribution to the hospice and we thank them for their continuing support.

“It costs Acorns over £9 million per year to provide our care and support for local children and their families and we rely on support from the community, including sponsorship from events such as this to continue.”

This is one of a number of festive charity events that we are supporting this weekend. The other events we are involved in are; Santa Runs for KEMP Hospice in Kidderminster, Myton Hospice in Coventry and Children’s Hospice South West in Bideford, as well as St David’s Hospice Care Christmas Fare in Cwmbran.
