Grounds for Life
03/04/2018
Nature trails, natural ponds and willow sculptures are just a few of the exciting activities which have taken place across Exeter schools in recent months.
Students from Clyst Heath, Countess Wear, Isca, St James and Willowbrook have been gaining some valuable skills and experience thanks to a partnership between ourselves and Devon Wildlife Trust (DWT).
Paul Martin, Education Officer from DWT explains: “The Grounds for Life project was developed to help schools improve their outdoor spaces and become an all year round learning resource while creating safe habitats for wildlife.
“Schools have a keen desire to create interesting outdoor spaces but lack the expertise and resources to make it happen. With funding from WPD we were able to bring the students ideas to life and provide help and support to ensure sustainability.”
Tracy Carr from Western Power Distribution added: “There is well documented evidence to support the benefits of outdoor activities like this and seeing some of the work achieved has made this a very worthwhile project for all those involved.”
Students from Isca Secondary School created a wonderful badger sculpture and Countess Wear had a family fun day as part of the project too.
