A step up for Melton Mowbray
Over £280,000 is being spent to further improve power supplies in Melton Mowbray.
This new initiative, which started on Tuesday March 24, involves laying 1.5km of underground cable along Thorpe Road and Thorpe End. It also involves the replacement of 120 service cables. This will help to further improve supply reliability to around 800 properties in Melton Mowbray.
“This investment will help to safeguard electricity supplies for our customers in the region for years to come by improving the infrastructure and security of our network,” said Mark Baxter, WPD’s Melton Team Manager.
Traffic management will be in place on Thorpe Road to enable WPD’s contractors Morrison Utility Services to install the cables. Over the next six months, there will also be parking restrictions and temporary road closures to the junctions with Belvoir Street, Doctors Lane, Salisbury Avenue and Stafford Avenue as the work moves along Thorpe Road towards Thorpe End, however signed diversions will be in place.
Mark added: “While this work is being undertaken, our aim is to keep any disruption to an absolute minimum. We have been working with Leicestershire County Council Highways to identify cable routes and traffic diversions that will create the least disruption for traffic flow in the area. We have also kept customers and business along the route informed by letter.”
