Isles of Scilly cable repairs
17/03/2017
Since Monday, Global Marine Systems, who are subsea cable experts, have been working to assess the damage which has affected the main cable supplying power to the Isles of Scilly.
The repair team has been working around the clock, using specialist cameras and equipment to assess the damaged cable.
However, with predicted bad weather over the next few days across the country, their boat has returned to Portland and will return on Tuesday next week, subject to suitable weather conditions, to carry on with the repairs.
Meanwhile, electricity supplies to customers on the island remain unaffected. They are being maintained by generation at the island’s power station, and there is sufficient capacity for this to continue for the duration of the repair to the cable.
When repairs begin, work is anticipated to take between five and 10 days, weather permitting.
