Leicester Improvements

An £8 million project to replace equipment at a major electricity substation in Leicester is underway.

The project, which is expected to take around two years to complete, involves the replacement of plant and apparatus at the site that has reached the end of its working life.

Once complete, the initiative will help to secure the ongoing security of supplies to over 200,000 customers in and around Leicester.

“Our work will help to safeguard electricity supplies for our customers locally for years to come by improving the infrastructure and security of our network,” said Patrick Booth, WPD’s Projects Distribution Manager for the area.

“The work is being carried out in stages with new equipment being installed before the old equipment is decommissioned and removed, to avoid any disruption to the electricity supplies to homes and businesses in the area,” added Patrick.

The project forms part of our commitment to provide a consistently high level of service to customers. We will invest over £7billion on our electricity network between now and 2023.
