Local support agencies get support

We are providing financial backing to local support agencies in South Wales to extend their fuel poverty support services to more people across South Wales in the lead up to winter.

We are supporting the Severn Wye Energy Agency, Care and Repair Cardiff and Neath Port Talbot Homes to deliver advice to fuel poor residents and help them keep warm on a budget – providing advice on energy tariffs, saving energy and offering financial guidance.

Alan Macnaughton, Project Worker from the Severn Wye Energy Agency explained how the money will be put to good use. “We are delighted to be offering impartial energy advice and home visits to those who are looking for a bit of support in how to keep their bills down and homes warm”

Karen McCalman from WPD explained: “As the company who delivers electricity to homes and businesses across South Wales, we recognise the worries that some people face when it comes to keeping warm during the cold months and we’re pleased to support these agencies to continue the valuable work they do to help local communities.”

The support agencies will also be giving power cut resilience advice and urging people to join our Priority Service Register, which offers additional support to customers in a power cut. Alan added: “Power cuts can be inconvenient to some, but for others it can be particularly distressing, particularly if you rely on electricity for medical reasons or to get around your house. The Priority Service Register offers piece of mind to those in case of a power cut.”
