Multi-million pound investment for power supplies
Over £7 million is being spent on a major initiative to boost power supplies in north Birmingham.
Western Power Distribution (WPD), the electricity distributor for the region, is committed to investing in its network to further improve supply reliability and customer service levels.
This new initiative involves the replacement of 16 circuit breakers which are now reaching the end of their working life. They are being replaced with the latest equipment to further safeguard supply reliability for over 170,000 customers in the north of the city as well as Great Barr, Walsall and Smethwick.
“It ensures that we can provide a high level of service to these areas in the long term by improving the infrastructure and security of our electricity network,” said Mick Dunne, WPD’s Projects Manager for the region.
The work is being completed without any disruption to electricity supplies with engineers able to re-route power flows on the network.
