Music in the air for talented Newport pupils

Youngsters from a Newport primary school’s choir have been singing their hearts out after receiving new sound equipment.

Alway Primary School received financial help for the equipment from electricity provider Western Power Distribution (WPD). It gives the choir a backing music sound system which will help enhance their musical performances.

The school, which has 390 pupils, regularly puts on shows and performances for parents and formed its own choir about two years ago. It has taken part in several events including the Gwent Music Support Group Christmas Concert and won the Newport City Schools’ Choir competition in 2012.

Deputy Head Teacher, Liz Heslop explained: “We were desperate to buy a new music system as our old one was very outdated. Our choir is doing really well and we are very proud of its achievements so far.

“Each time it puts on a performance it seems to get better and better, and we are always keen to show off the talents of our youngsters whenever we can. Thanks to WPD’s support we have enhanced the range of resources we have available at the school for the benefit of all our pupils.”
