New apprentices learn skills needed for the job ahead

We recently welcomed our new annual group of 115 apprentices to the industry, starting them off with a tailored training programme at our two state of the art Training Centres in Taunton and Tipton, aimed at preparing them for their daily roles at WPD.

Some of the new apprentices learn jointing skills at Tipton Training Centre.

The recruits joined WPD in overhead, jointing and fitting roles to boost the company’s skill set. 64 will be working in the Midlands, with 51 in the South West of England and South Wales. They’ll spend their first thirteen weeks learning basic skills before moving to the operational depots.

Bob Fox, Training Support Manager, said: “The arrival of this year’s intakes means another busy autumn for the trainers and support staff at our Training Centres. This training block gives the new apprentices an opportunity to join their networks services teams with the basic knowledge that will enable them to make a valuable contribution from day one.”
