Powerful work in Great Barr

Western Power Distribution (WPD) will be replacing electrical equipment in its substation on Hamstead Road and carrying out work to connect it to underground cables directly outside. The new equipment will help to further safeguard supply reliability to around 3,000 customers in Great Barr, West Midlands.

“The investment ensures that we can provide a high level of service to customers in the area,” said Steve Jervis, WPD’s local Team Manager.

“While the work is underway, we will aim to keep any disruption to an absolute minimum. We have been liaising with Sandwell Council and agreed to carry out the majority of the work outside of peak times.

“One lane of the dual carriageway on Newton Road will be closed overnight on October 3 and 4 and the rest of the work will be carried out without any disruption to traffic.”

The work forms part of WPD’s commitment to provide a consistently high level of service to customers. Around £2 billion is being invested by the company on its electricity network between 2010 and 2015.
