Pupil's recipe for success

Monmouthshire pupils have taken part in a competition to create a healthy menu for their favourite celebrity.
The Great Celebrity Menu competition, part of the Abergavenny Food Festival, tasked pupils with creating a three course, healthy meal for their favourite celebrity. No cooking was involved, but competitors had to list ingredients and name their celebrity.

The overall winner of the event which we sponsored was 11-year-old William Jones from Llanfoist Primary School, who also won first prize in his age category.
He chose comedian and author David Walliams as his celebrity and his menu included courses derived from the comedian’s book characters – like Mr Stink’s spaghetti swirls.
William was presented with a cash prize of £30 plus £100 for his school by celebrity TV chef Cyrus Todiwala at the festival. The runners up also received cash prizes of £20 for 2nd prize and £15 for third prize.
Chief Executive of the festival and judge, Heather Myers, said William and his fellow finalist Reuben Lewis of Llanvihangel Crucorney Primary School, who won the 5 -7 year age category, did remarkably well and the standard of entries was excellent.
The festival, now in its 17th year, is regarded as one of the most exciting and innovative food events in the UK, and its schools’ cookery competition was hotly contested.
