Put your pedal power to the test at our summer shows
Customers who relish a cycling challenge will have opportunities to test their pedal power and ability to generate electricity when National Grid hits the road and visits popular events this summer.
Visitors to our interactive exhibition space will be able to hop onto static bikes and see via LED display boards how much power they can produce.
Every joule of energy generated will be fed into a storage battery that’ll help provide renewable energy to our stand, which will be visiting three major agricultural shows.
If you’ve ever wondered what it takes to climb poles and repair overhead lines, there’ll be a chance to find out by donning headsets and having a virtual reality (VR) experience. We’ll also be providing a VR view of how our helicopter unit maintains our network.
Engineering staff will be doing outdoor demonstrations with commentaries explaining how they look after our poles and overhead lines, including how they safely retrieve stray kites that have blown into them.
Our resident superhero Pylonman will be starring in pantomime-style puppet shows on the hour, every hour run, teaching safety messages to families with a little help from theatre company Bollo.
Plus young visitors will be able to test their gaming skills with new versions of Blackout and Shiny Happy Customers to play on iPads and a touchscreen console. We’ll be keeping scores throughout the summer on a leader board for players to keep track of their rankings.
Along with educational circuit sets for visitors to experiment with and learn more about electricity, there’ll be a free-to-enter competition with the chance to win a prize bundle, including Lego, a programmable robot and a circuit set.
If you need a rest after all that, our Big Deckchair will be the place where all the family can relax.
We look forward to seeing you at:
