Safety equipment for karate academy

Youngsters from Willenhall Karate Academy are delighted after receiving new safety equipment in the form of shin guards and body protectors, thanks to Western Power Distribution (WPD).

The equipment will help to ensure that club members can practise the highly skilled martial art safely during their training, whilst also allowing them to take part in competitions.

The club’s junior section has 30 members with an age range of 5 to 16 years old.

Under the watchful eye of Sensei Steve O’Gara, who has been running the club for eight years, the boys and girls at the Academy work hard to reach the high standards that are set.

“I want to provide them with the best possible training, and having the appropriate equipment allows me to do this,” explained Steve.

For the past two years the club has taken part in local and regional competitions, winning a number of titles, and with the new equipment they hope to achieve even more.

“We are grateful to WPD for providing the funding for our new training equipment, which we hope will help the youngsters achieve future success,” said Steve.
