The Power of Touch

Cardiff-based charity Touch Trust believe in the power of touch and they use it with other multi-sensory activities to provide relaxation and enjoyment to those with autism, profound physical and learning difficulties and challenging behaviour.

Touch programmes include music, movement and dance, which can help to raise self-esteem, confidence and decision making abilities.

And now thanks to a donation of £2,000 from Western Power Distribution (WPD) the charity has been able to purchase specialist hand-made equipment for its guests to use at its centre in Cardiff Bay.

The donation has been used to purchase musical instruments in the form of a Big Boom and Log Drum which is already bringing enjoyment and pleasure to the guests who attend the centre located in the Wales Millennium Centre.

Touch Trust Founder and Director, Dilys Price, OBE, explained: “Our aim is to improve the quality of life for our guests, and to help create an integrated community through advocating for disability equality work within community arts, and dance organisations.

“Our creative touch-based art of movement and dance programmes help to reduce isolation and the frustration experienced by those excluded from the wider community because of disability.

“We are grateful to WPD for their donation which has meant we’ve been able to introduce some new activities into our programme.”

WPD’s Karen Welch explained: "When we heard about the fantastic work Touch Trust does and the costs involved in running the centre, we were only too happy to help, it’s a wonderful place.”
