There's Hope for Tomorrow

Hope for Tomorrow, received a much needed funding boost from WPD recently which enabled them to refurbish ‘Bumble’, Somerset’s mobile chemotherapy unit.

Hilary May (seated) the first patient to be treated by Bumble when it was first launched in 2010, joined by Claire Cosgrove and Sean Carney, Team Manager for WPD taking an early look inside the refurbished unit.

Hope for Tomorrow is a cancer charity dedicated to bringing cancer treatment closer to home for patients. Claire Cosgrove, Head of Corporate Fundraising explains: “We receive no government funding for the mobile units we provide to the NHS and each one costs around £260,000 to build and maintain for three years.

“Support from companies like WPD enables us to update the facilities and continue to provide treatment in the community reducing travel times, waiting times and the stresses often found in a busy hospital.”

Tracy Carr from Corporate Communications added: “As well as the financial support we provided, Surf Telecom installed the necessary equipment to enable Bumble to have Wi Fi on board so that the Nursing Team can update patient records and enabling patients to use electronic devices while receiving their treatment.”

Bumble operates in Bridgwater, Minehead, West Mendip and Chard on a weekly basis treating between 18-20 patients per day.
