Victory in the Valley
02/09/2016
We have made a £1million investment on an initiative to upgrade a primary substation located at the top of a South Wales valley.

This new initiative at Abertysswg in the Rhymney Valley, involves the company replacing almost all of the substation’s equipment such as transformers, circuit breakers, switchgear and isolators. It was originally installed in the 1950s and 60s and includes two 57 year old transformers.
The substation’s battery system has also been upgraded and its building has also benefited from new heating and lighting systems.
The investment will help to safeguard supply reliability to the area’s 8,000 customers, as WPD Project Engineer Stuart Howe explained.
“It ensures that we can provide a high level of service to the Rhymney Valley in the long term, by improving the infrastructure and security of our electricity network,” he said.
