Vulnerable individuals supported as we deliver more than £23m in fuel poverty savings

We have outlined the extensive work we are doing to support the most vulnerable people in society, demonstrating our commitment to addressing fuel poverty and providing essential support to those in need.

In the last year, we have delivered:

  • More than £23m of fuel poverty savings directly to more than 23,000 customers, by helping them with things like energy efficiency measures and benefit applications
  • £449,000 of low carbon transition savings for nearly 6,000 customers, by providing advice and grant support to help customers in vulnerable situations benefit from smart energy offers
  • 4 million proactive calls, texts and emails to check-in with customers on the Priority Services Register, a free to join service for customers who have extra communication, access or safety needs
  • 9/10 customer satisfaction with fuel poverty and low carbon transition services
  • £6m from its Community Matters Fund, directly benefiting over 360,000 people in the local community
  • A bespoke Smart Energy Action Plan offered to more than 1 million customer

One charity we partner with is Hope4U. This year they helped more than 700 new and expectant mothers receive vital support.

Luke Arnold, Hope4U Director, said: “We believe everyone deserves a chance in life.

“Our partnership with National Grid helps us to provide mothers, who are often in difficult circumstances, with immediate and long-lasting support.

“We work with NHS community midwives and other healthcare professionals to help mothers access maternity benefits, Priority Services Register sign ups, energy advice, housing support and essential baby equipment so that they can build a brighter future for their families.”

A midwife who has used the service to support mothers said: “This is an amazing and really needed service. The feedback from the ladies supported has been brilliant.”

Christopher Hayton, Director of Corporate Affairs at National Grid Electricity Distribution, said: “It has never been so important for companies to play their part in supporting the communities they serve.

“I am proud of the work we are doing with partners like Hope4U to reduce fuel poverty, enable access to low carbon technologies, and provide additional support to customers with a range of additional needs.

"We will continue to work together to help provide a clear, fair and affordable energy future.”
