We join Community Energy Wales and Community Energy England
We have become a member of the community energy organisations covering our patch in South Wales, the Midlands and South West to work collaboratively, better understand the challenges facing the sector and provide a strong collective voice to help solve these.
Sarah Jeffery, Head of Strategic Customer Engagement at National Grid Electricity Distribution, said: “We have a critical role to play helping communities benefit from the race to Clean Power 2030. That’s why I am pleased that National Grid Electricity Distribution has joined Community Energy Wales and Community Energy England. We, mutually, have so much to gain – and learn – from working with members across South Wales, the Midlands and South West. Let's work together to unleash the potential of community energy together.”
Emma Bridge, Chief Executive at Community Energy England, said: "We are pleased to welcome National Grid Electricity Distribution (NGED) as a Principal Member of Community Energy England. This membership comes at a critical juncture as the focus sharpens on achieving the 2030 clean power mission and advancing a fairer energy transition. NGED’s commitment to refreshing their approach to community energy, engaging with our members, and seeking innovative solutions for improving grid connections is a significant step forward. Together, we look forward to fostering collaboration and driving the systemic change needed to empower communities and meet the challenges of the energy future."
Ben Ferguson and Leanne Wood, from Community Energy Wales, said: “Community Energy Wales are looking forward to a new phase of working with NGED, following their application to become members. As the way we use our energy infrastructure evolves and develops, a close link between community energy organisations and district network operators is vital to ensure communities are at the heart of the future energy system.
“We look forward to working together with NGED to strengthen the voice and asset base of Welsh communities.”
