Work begins in Hilton

Work to install four kilometres of new 11,000 volt underground electricity cables in Hilton is due to start today.

We have been requested to carry out the work, which will take around 12 weeks to complete, to provide a new electricity supply to St Modwens for their new site at the Mease in Hilton.

During this time, traffic management will be in place to enable our contractors, Morrison Utility Services, to carry out the work safely. This will be monitored regularly to ensure smooth traffic flows.

Cables will be installed near the Salt Box Junction and run along the Derby Road and into Hilton. The work will involve teams excavating from both ends of the route.

Access to homes and businesses will remain unaffected throughout the works, and excavations, where possible, will be within the verges. However, a significant proportion of the route will require excavation in the roadway.

Simon Roper, Team Manager for the area said: “Our aim is to keep any disruption to an absolute minimum while this work is being undertaken. We’ve agreed a traffic management plan with Derbyshire County Council which creates the least disruption, notified customers along the route by letter and liaised with schools and larger businesses in the area.”
