WPD makes watertight investment
A £200,000 investment is being spent on an initiative to improve flood defence measures at a major electricity substation in Gnossal.
WPD, the electricity distributor responsible for the area since April 2011, is committed to investing on its network to improve supply reliability and customer service levels.
This new initiative involves WPD building flood walls around equipment in the substation at Gnossal as well as adding flood defence doors and membranes on buildings.
WPD has also invested in a number of specially adapted Emergency Response Vehicles which are capable of pumping away 1,500 gallons of water per minute and employees have undertaken training to enable them to use the vehicles safely.
The measures will help to safeguard supply reliability to around 4,500 customers in the Gnossal area.
“It ensures that we can provide a high level of service to Gnossal in the long term, by improving the infrastructure and security of our electricity network,” said Peter Burgess, WPD’s Projects Team Manager for the area.
