Yellow is the new black

Electricity pylons in south Lincolnshire are getting a make-over. We are repainting the pylons as part of our maintenance programme.

Nearly 120 pylons that carry 132,000 volt power lines between Boston and Walpole are being repainted – initially with a yellow undercoat, and shortly after with the usual grey/black top coat.

The circuit, which brings electricity to around 37,000 customers in the Boston area, has been switched off while the work is taking place. Electricity has been rerouted to customers from an alternative circuit without any disruption to supplies.

The repainting, which started at the end of September, is expected to take around six weeks to complete depending on the weather and will ensure that the metal work is kept in tip-top condition.

“This maintenance work will help to prolong the lifespan of the pylons and safeguard electricity supplies for our customers in the region for years to come,” said James Bradley, WPD’s Team Manager for the area.
