Forecasting future electricity need
Distribution Future Energy Scenarios
Our Distribution Future Energy Scenarios (DFES) outline the range of credible futures for the growth of the distribution network, broadly aligning with the Electricity System System Operator's (ESO) Future Energy Scenarios (FES). It is the first stage of our network investment planning process that will ensure our network is ready for a decarbonised future.
Our DFES include the predicted growth of demand, storage and distributed generation as well as low carbon technologies such as Electric Vehicles and Heat Pumps. They also consider the four different scenarios set out by the ESO; Falling Short, System Transformation, Consumer Transformation and Leading the Way - you can find out more here.
Distribution Future Energy Scenarios (DFES) reports
We work with Regen to create our DFES report each year which can be viewed here. We also produce DFES reports for each local authority and can provide this on request. If you would like to see a copy of your local authority DFES report please contact us by emailing nged.energyplanning@nationalgrid.co.uk.
Distribution Future Energy Scenarios (DFES) interactive map
We have made our Distribution Future Energy Scenario (DFES) projections available as an interactive map, which allows stakeholders to explore how we spatially allocate growth of different demand and generation technologies across our licence areas.
How to use our interactive map
To help you get started using our Distribution Future Energy Scenario (DFES) interactive map we have made an introductory video that explains the how to use to explore the data.
