Turning local area energy planning into a reality

Using local information

What you tell us about your local plans will be included in our network development plans and will ensure that we are making the most effective investments in the electricity network in your area.

We know electricity, but you know your local areas best. That’s why we are committed to engaging with you throughout our network development process so if you haven’t already connected with us, please get in touch.

What we need from your data

To ensure we can make the best use of your local energy planning data, we need to know:

  • What technology categories you are using and these need to be the same as those used by the Electricity System Operator (ESO). We need to account for all customers that generate/consume electricity within our network now and in the future as part of our strategic planning and so need to understand what is and isn’t in scope

  • You are using multiple scenarios that match the scenario framework used by the ESO and include; Falling short, System transformation, Consumer transformation, and Leading the way. For more details on ESO technologies and scenarios, click here.

  • That your plans align with any national policy changes

  • Where and when you are planning any new building developments. These need to include a unique and consistent reference for each site and include Shapefiles (i.e. .shp/.gpkg) of their locations

  • Your data can be sent to us as machine-readable data. This means it must be in a data format that can be automatically read and processed by a computer, such as CSV, JSON, XML, etc

  • You have considered a whole energy system approach, exploring a variety of energy vectors and acknowledging that energy you use could be generated elsewhere and that energy you generate may be sent elsewhere (i.e. we can’t consider plans that adopt an energy island methodology).
